| My Mother,, and those who came before her, were born in Jolon, California. Our Family is identified as Salinan from the Salinan - Chumash Nation. As such, we made annual trips to "the Reservation," as they called it. Trips to the San Antonio Mission, and visiting where my ancestors lived, was always an adventure for me as a child. As an adult, I continue to visit, primarily the Sacred Sites, i.e., the remnants of a small model of a 'Salinan Sweat Lodge' and the Mass Grave Site located within the Mission's grounds. This Mission is smack dab in the middle of Fort Hunter Liggett and many of us often gravitate there to connect with extended members of Our Family |

| We, as indigenous peoples, are falling short of our obligation to pass on to the next 7 generations what we know, due to the homogenizing of our indigenous brain into an industrious and ambitious, money hungry people; neglecting our youth by not sharing our knowledge and wisdom. My commitment is to help us incorporate the Old Ways of thinking and living, which in turn, will enable us to survive, and to walk a straight path as my ancestors would want me to and to reflect their concerns with my actions and commitment. |
